What to Expect  Peninsula Naturopathic Clinic

What to Expect on Your First Visit (week one – 45 minutes)
  1. A History – This is a chance for you to provide your ND with detailed information regarding your current and past health states.
  2. Screening physical exam – This gives the ND an opportunity to perform basic physical clinical diagnosis to examine first hand the issues associated with your health concern(s).  Often the physical exam will only focus on the chief concern.
  3. Review of necessary ‘homework’ to be done over the next week and recommendations on further tests.  Homework could include questionnaires, diet diary, and educational reading.  Tests reviewed may involve biological terrain analysis, blood work, and organ or food sensitivity testing, among others.
Second Visit (week two – 45 minutes)
  1. Review of questionnaires, nutritional counseling and performing or scheduling suggested tests.
  2. Education- Why your current health issues have developed and what to expect long-term.
  3. Individualized treatment plan-Review of dietary, vitamin, herbal, homeopathic, acupuncture or physical medicine recommendations that would be most effective given your health concerns, age, and sensitivity level.  This will be thoroughly discussed and modified as needed in future visits.
Follow up visits (20 minutes)
These will be discussed and recommended depending on the treatment plan you and your ND have developed.  It is crucial to continue working with your ND to maintain progress and improvements to your health.
Adult care
Appointments can be scheduled as needed in cases of non-life threatening illnesses such as colds and flu’s.  You will be referred onto other professionals such as your MD, DC, PT if it is deemed necessary.  Naturopathic medicine offers many alternatives to antibiotics that can assist your body to heal itself.
Children
Naturopathic medicine has much to offer for pediatric and children’s health.  Visits are recommended for overall wellbeing, chronic issues as well as acute care.  ND’s will refer onto appropriate medical professionals when it is deemed necessary (ie when antibiotics or other drugs are needed).
Family visits
When treating 3 or more family members at once (i.e. in the same visit), a discount for consultation fees will be given.  Inquire for more information.

Since your ND requires you to understand how naturopathic medicine will benefit your unique health condition, most patients will not be given naturopathic treatments or therapy recommendations on their first visit. You will be instructed with possible homework and further diagnostic testing if necessary. Your case will then be reviewed carefully for your second visit where medications, therapies and treatments will be discussed and implemented. You will be provided with ongoing specialized instructions in future visits to guide your way to our optimal health. Your ND also encourages the cooperation of treating you along with your other health providers.
